Investigative Reporting Workshop

June 2024 – Present

Fellow

  • Developed, reported, researched, and wrote an in-depth investigation into maintenance and upkeep processes in the District of Columbia's public housing system, published in Washington City Paper.
    Analyzed data in Excel and used visualization tools to effectively convey complex quantitative information.
    Interviewed public housing residents around the District to convey the human experiences behind my reporting. 
    Identified and pursued multiple follow-up stories based on information found in my initial reporting. 
    Interviewed and researched extensively on anti-transgender legislation and its effects on everyday life in a number of states, including Florida, Texas, and Ohio, alongside a team of other fellows. 

POLITICO

New Jersey Editorial Intern

  • Spearheaded POLITICO’s coverage of affordable housing legislation and campus protests on the Israel-Gaza War, as well as extensively reporting on competitive 2024 U.S. Senate and House campaigns and election reforms, including quick breaking news.
    Communicated with leaders in both houses of the N.J. state legislature, the Governor’s office, and major campaigns around the state, and tracked important legislation throughout the legislative process. 
    Created daily newsletters for subscribers on the events of the day prior, working as a part of a team.

Managing Editor, News Editor

  • Spearheaded initiatives to advance content strategy regarding underrepresented communities, DEI programs, and the continuation of long-term stories, including significant investigative projects.
    Edited and published nightly about 15 articles, columns, podcasts, design projects, or other content to be published both in print and online, managing a staff of around 400 students. Acted as touchpoint for editors and writers in news, investigations, newsletters, puzzles, copyediting, and archival work.
    As Head News Editor for 2022: Managed all news coverage for the year, ensuring consistent and timely coverage of important events. Extensively communicated with University administration, while also writing and reporting particularly difficult or sensitive stories, including coverage of student deaths. 
    As Assistant News Editor in 2021 and News Contributor in the fall of 2020: reported significant breaking news and daily coverage, including of COVID-19 policies and quarantine measures at the height of the pandemic, as well as a mental health crisis among the student body and implications of the 2020 election on campus.

International Press Institute

Press Freedom and Communications Intern

  • Monitored, researched, and reported on press freedom violations worldwide, including reaching out to local sources and accessing files, as well as closely tracking social media and online alerts.
    Pitched, planned, and executed a multi-part enterprise series highlighting the experiences and challenges of LGBTQ+ journalists worldwide, featuring journalists from Belarus, Ethiopia, and Colombia among others.

U.S. House of Representatives

June 2022 - July 2022

Legislative Intern, Office of Rep. Brenda Lawrence (MI-14)

  • Handled women’s issues legislative tasks, focusing specifically on reproductive rights, attending briefings and hearings with other Congressional and White House offices and non-governmental actors

  • Drafted text of a reproductive rights public awareness bill and moved bill through the introduction process

  • Assisted with social media posts and press releases during turnover of communications staff

  • Wrote cosponsor recommendations, amendment opposition speeches, and meeting memos for senior staff and the Congresswoman

May 2021 - July 2021

Legislative Intern, Office of Rep. Tom Malinowski (NJ-07)

  • ​Prepped member testimony on amendments to foreign assistance funding bill, created floor cards

  • Prepped the Congressman for hearings and interviews by providing talking points, news summaries, statements from other officials, and notes on related hearings, including on Afghanistan, China, and Cuba

  • Collected and organized data on international money laundering and surveillance, including Pegasus spyware
